Giving Kitchen Helps Food Service Workers.

It’s easy to talk about Giving Kitchen. More than 40,000 food service workers helped. Millions of dollars in financial assistance. Thousands of food service workers & their families connected to community resources when they needed them most.

Those numbers matter. They help tell the story of what this community makes possible. But they don’t tell you exactly who is on the other side of them.

The food service worker facing a breast cancer diagnosis. The parent trying to keep a roof over their family’s head. The person looking for a safe place to land. The cook, server, bartender, or dishwasher who suddenly finds themselves in a crisis they never saw coming.

Sometimes, a crisis comes with a diagnosis.

A breast cancer diagnosis can change a person’s life overnight. October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month shines light on an important reminder to get regular checks and access to routine medical care.

For one Giving Kitchen client, treatment meant time away from work and a very real financial strain at home. Giving Kitchen was able to provide financial assistance and help connect her with additional community resources while she focused on getting through her breast cancer treatment.

That’s what support can look like.

Not making a difficult season disappear. Just helping make sure a crisis doesn’t have to become even bigger.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to recognize the people experiencing intimate partner violence and the resources that can help them find a way forward.

Intimate partner violence affects 12 million Americans each year. That’s 24 people every minute (National Domestic Violence Hotline, 2026). Behind that number are real people—including food service workers—navigating shifts, side work, and the weight of wondering what comes next.

For a food service worker experiencing domestic violence, asking for help might mean finding a lawyer, understanding a court order, securing safe housing, or simply figuring out the next step forward.

Giving Kitchen’s team can help connect food service workers to those resources through our Stability Network. Because no one should have to figure this out alone—especially not while trying to clock in and keep going.
