Celebrate with us on September 25

National Food Service Worker Day is a special time to honor the heart and soul of the food service industry. At Giving Kitchen, we believe in celebrating the hard work and dedication of food service workers who bring joy to our tables.

By joining National Food Service Worker Day you aren’t just celebrating an industry—Together we’re igniting a movement.

We’re inviting everyone to participate, whether by dining out, sharing their food service story on social media using #FSWDay, or participating in education sessions. For nearly two-thirds of Americans who have worked in food service, this is a chance to reconnect with their roots and support those currently in the industry.

Dine Out on September 25

A great way to support food service workers is to dine out on National Food Service Worker Day.

Be sure to thank your cashier, server or any other staff you meet during your meal. And let them know that you’re celebrating the day.

If you’re looking for a new favorite spot, consider one of the hundreds of restaurants participating in Giving Kitchen’s Dining With Gratitude fundraising campaign throughout the month of September.

Meet Ashley 👋 @dawsonashleyn is an industry veteran whose work shines at the intersection of food, culture, and community. We first connected with her earlier this month at an author talk hosted by @charisbooksandmore at @woofsatlanta, where she joined christinasworld and Author @erikp57 in conversation about his book "Dining Out: First Dates, Defiant Nights, and Last Call Disco Fries at America's Gay Restaurants."

That night, Ashley helped bring to life the stories of gay restaurants and establishments—how they’ve served as places of safety, celebration, and connection for the LGBTQ+ community across generations. We are immensely grateful to everyone who took the time to hear more about Giving Kitchen's mission to help food service workers in crisis.

We’re thrilled to share that Javier Gonzalez, Bartaco’s Florida Regional Director, proudly represented us at the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association’s 13th Annual Premier Hospitality Summit, held August 12–14, 2025, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. With keynote speakers like Tim Tebow leading the conversation, the Summit was a powerful opportunity to connect with industry leaders and champions of hospitality.

Javier’s presence highlighted our commitment to community through the Giving Kitchen’s “Dining With Gratitude” campaign—a mission close to our hearts at Bartaco. Through our special “Giving Taco” program, we introduce a unique taco every few weeks and pledge a portion of those sales to support food service workers facing unexpected crises.
Thank you, Javier, for representing Bartaco and helping raise awareness for such a meaningful cause. Together, we’re serving up tacos—and compassion—one bite at a time! givingkitchen javierbthyde bartacolife frlanews#FSWday

Meet Edwin Merrick 👋 Giving Kitchen has always been close to Edwin’s heart. His involvement started the very night Chef Ryan 'Hidi' Hidinger received tests that led to his stage-IV cancer diagnosis, and he’s been part of the journey ever since, even attending the first Team Hidi! Today, serving on Giving Kitchen's board allows him to honor Ryan’s memory and give back to the food service community that means so much to his family.

Meet John Kessler (@jdkess) 👋 A devoted supporter of Giving Kitchen, and someone who freely admits he was never winning “Server of the Year” 🍽️ John proves you don’t need perfect trays to make a huge impact. Through his '23 AJC article “Savoring the Now,” he shared Chef Ryan “Hidi” and Jen’s story with heart and honesty, helping a local mission reach a national audience. Over the years, he’s continued showing up for Giving Kitchen, most recently at our Say Yes Chef event, cheering, supporting, and reminding us why our work matters. 12 years later, his storytelling shows just how much our vision still resonates.
